Lolong: Name of the Giant crocodile captured in Philippines, alive!

A Giant crocodile was captured in the Philippines. They named it “Lolong”

“Lolong” was found and captured! A giant salt water crocodile was captured along a creek in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur Province, Philippines last Saturday. The said Giant Crocodile was 21 foot or 6.4 meters long and this is one of the largest crocodiles ever captured alive in the Philippines.

As you can see in the photo, the giant crocodile aka.a Lolong, is really BIG! The person who is “holding” the crocodile trying to measure the length, is Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde of Bunawan. This photo was taken last September 4, 2011.

Mayor Elorde said: “We were nervous but it’s our duty to deal with a threat to the villagers,”. “When I finally stood before it, I couldn’t believe my eyes.”

This giant crocodile was seen by the villagers attacking and killing a water buffalo. The giant crocodile was also suspected that it was the one who attack a missing fisherman last July.

Mayor Elorde then sought help from crocodile experts in western Palawan province to capture the giant crocodile. Regular traps were no match for the huge crocodile. They used strong steel traps to capture and ensnare the giant crocodile.

The giant crocodile or Lolong was reported to weigh around 2,370 pounds or 1,075 kilos, 1 Ton! According to Mayor Elorde, the giant crocodile will be the Star of the upcoming Eco-tourism park.

But Mayor Elorde warned the townspeople not to venture in the outskirts and marshy areas because there are still many dangerous crocodiles roaming the area.
